Portable BBSE Lab
I decided to purchase a utility trailer to create a mobile bull breeding soundness examination lab in. The purpose is to help with several little things that I wished were better. It really focused around the problem of having to place take the microscope from the clinic and haul it in the back seat, then place it either somewhere in the cab of my truck or outside near the chute. The dust and dirt getting in the microscope and on my microscope slides just wasn’t fun. There were several times when it was cold, the wind was blowing and it became impossible to keep the slide warmers or stage warmer warm. A long time ago I heard the saying, “garbage in, garbage out.” There were many times that is exactly how I felt, “this is garbage.”
I wanted to have the ability to better control my environment, protect the equipment, and create more consistent plus reliable results for my clients.
This is now my favorite trailer in the whole world.
It plugs in to run everything I need while parked near the chute at our clinic.
Four solar panels are mounted on top for a total of 400 watts.
The trailer will run an entire day using the solar panels, two 200ah 12v lithium ion batteries, 3,000 watt power inverter, and charge controller. There is an electric heater in the trailer to prevent freezing during the winter. When the heater is on it will run the batteries down in about 6 hours. During the summer it does not need to be plugged in.
Slat board is mounted on the wall to help organize and have the supplies close by as needed. In back is an incubator (left) and a refrigerator (right).
An electric hot water heater and a water storage tank are hidden under the bench. We are using a simple wash tub to hold the water for clean-up, then we simply through the water out. Containers on the wall to the left have syringes and needles in them. The top is storage for trich. tags, cleaning, and other supplies.

Thanks for enjoying my favorite trailer. I have to credit the idea from an AABP annual conference meeting. What might you do to improve the idea?
